We have had a marvelous four days in the St Louis area, studying a lot of American history. The Cahokia Indian Mounds across the Mississippi River in Illinois date to AD 900 reveal a city of 10-15,000 people. London England at that time was not that large.
South of St Louis is White Haven, home of Ulysses S Grant prior to the Civil War. It revealed a very person side of him and his wife Julia.
The famous Arch commemorates the opening of the American West, the great expansion of our country. The is a lot of history in St Louis. Thirty miles west is St Charles on the Missouri River, the starting point for the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1803.
Of course Route 66 passes through St Louis and we walked across the Mississippi River on the old Route 66 bridge.
Also in St Louis are quilt stores. Hank is close to being addicted.
We end a marvelous vacation tomorrow and pray to return home safely.
Love to all,
Hank and Marilyn
