Tent packed up quite easily and we head back through Ballarat and have a McDonalds for breakfast. Road to Adelaide is not quite what we thought, road is a bit like driving to Aviemore, occasional stretch with overtaking lane but traffic is really busy as it's good Friday, so a very slow journey. Very windy and dust storms make driving difficult, had to drive through a pretty bad one and couldn't see the car in front of us.
Driving through Horsham Alan spots a speed trap at the side of the road, did he see them too late?? He has been sticking to the speed limit all day but it had dropped to a 60 km at that point. Even better, they are so generous here in Oz, they give you double penalty points on bank holiday weekends. Now he's worried, less than 1000 km into the journey, at this rate he might not have a licence by the time we get to Perth! This part of our journey sees us travelling from Victoria over the border into South Australia and we need to put our clocks back by ½ hour.
Arrive at Riverside Caravan Park, Tailem Bend, mmmmm, looks beautiful in the pictures!! So windy we struggle to get the tent up, once it's up we struggle to keep it on the ground. After a bit of a wrestle we give up and decide we need to drive to Adelaide. Luckily I manage to find a Comfort Inn that will allow us to stay with the dog. Not a good idea to drive at dusk in Oz due to the risk of hitting kangaroos and other wild animals, however we make it into Adelaide and it seems like a lovely city.
First thing we see is a koala walking down the street!!! Had to look twice, we do expect to see some wild animals in our travels but not walking down the pavement at the side of a busy road, a bit surreal tbh Arrive at the hotel which is right beside a beautiful marina. Usually we would think this is basic, tonight my bed is the most luxurious bed ever. Have phone signal and internet, woo hoo I'm so excited!
