Hello Everyone!
Well I arrived safely in Cape Town yesterday. It was sad saying goodbye to everyone at CROW, we had all become quite close over the 2 weeks. I will defintely miss them, although I am very excited for the next leg of my journey. I begin my tour tomorow which goes for 21 days North from Cape Town into Namibia, Botswana and ends at Victoria Falls in Zambia.
My last few days in Durban were great! Myself and one of the other volunteers went on a overnight tour of a Zulu village, which was such an interesting experience! We had a tour of the village, where we met a medicine women, visited their temple, ate traditonal Zulu meals (which you eat with your hands), and which by the way were vegetarian and quite tastey! We also went to a Zulu pub and enjoyed some 1$ beers with the locals! I must say this was by far one of the most interesting experiences of my life! The two of us were not only the only white people in the bar but also the only girls and boy were the Zulu men happy to see us! Needless to say I had 4 marriage proposals! After that we were invited to watch a celebration that was going on for an upcoming wedding. The groom's family was all packed into this little round house singing and dancing for hours! It was so incredible to walk in there and feel the energy from their singing and have them all cheer when we came in! After that we headed back to the hut where we were going to spend the night and visited with the family. Their were 5 little kids in the family who just clung to us and they were so sweet! Two actually ended up sleeping in the bed with us which made it quite crowded. In the morning we woke up quite early and had breakfast and were then picked up by the tour company, but of course not before recieving another marriage proposal from the oldest son of the family we stayed with!
The day we got back there was a goodbye party for one of the staff members who was leaving. This was defintely good times and we defintely partied in true South African style! Did i mention you can buy a 6 pack of local beer for 40 rand which is about 5 dollars canadian!? Yeah I think I may throw out all my clothes and fill my bag with beer....and maybe a monkey!
Today I was hoping to climb Table Mountain but i've been told its closed because of high winds so I think i'm going to go down to V&A waterfront which is a touristy shopping area by the water.
Alright that's all for now!
Take Care!
