Yassas Luved Ones...
My trip to Greece was amazing, gorgeous food, lush weather, ancient magic.
Day One -
We lost this day....good ol' EasyJet delayed out flight from London to Athens by 11 long ass hours. Crazy, we managed to get outta the airport though and escape to Lizzy's man's house half hour away where he cooked us a mean feed and we watched telly. Headed back to the airport an hour before due depart and spent our £12voucher each on water, juice, chocs, pistaschios, lollies, chips...seriously 2 bags full of food - not beacuse we are little piggies but coz we could only use our vouchers on food. Then finally we were off.
Landed in Athens and had a hour train ride to Piraeus Port to our hotel, its about 20mins train from central Athens. By now it was after midnight and what a long day so we knocked out.
Day Two
On the metro train headed to Acropolis to visit the magic of ancient Greece. We found a nice cafe on the side street and had a mega yummy brekkie of feta, tomato crepe..it started to rain and thunder. I normally would be gutted to have stink weather, but something about looking at The Partheon siting ontop of Acropolis with the sound of thunder was quite magical. It was then we bought our 2euro umbrellas, why is this important grace? because....my umbrella had kewl african designs on it...and around the edge of the bottom all around it said....MAORI!!!! hehehe was so funny, go all the way to Greece and pick up a umbrella with Maori on it, well me and lizzy thought it was hilirous hehe.
ANYWAYS...off we went to explore Acropolis and walked up the hill to the Partheon, where we took daring fotos on the wall hehe....respectfully though....they have security all over and they whistle if you get to close to the bulidings etc....which is fair enough. The Partheon is currently being perserved so heaps of scaffolding but still magical. Then checked out musems and the surrounding bulidings and sculptures - my fav was one of King Neptune. Then wandered the streets of THE oldest market in the world - how kewl is that...thats when I found the man outside the trainstation to make me a necklace that says my name in greek woohoo!!! Got serenaded by walking street buskers while we ate our lunch hehe but they got shooed away by resturant workers hehe. Wandered the streets some more then found nice place for dinner where they were excited we from NZ hehe
Day Three
Wasn't too exciting as we where on a huge cruise boat for 8hours in the mediaterian sea to Santorini (one of the greek islands). The boat was mega packed, thank God we were in first class (only coz economy sold out)..coz everyone else was seated in coridors, sides of walls - almost like they just put charis in any space avaliable on the ferry. I couldn't help but think of Titanic. Arriving on Santorini, Lizzy had sorted our accomdotion at a place called Artemis Village - which is about 5min driv out of Fira (the centre of Santorini) in less tourist part which we loved - we were greeted by Artemis with Lizzy name on a sign hehe. He gave us a mini tour on way to his place, told us what to look out for etc. Really beautiful place, its family run hotel with his wife and got super taken care of. Dinner we ventured out at sunset down the road to a resturant by the water to have a seafood feed. I had swordfish woohoo!
2 be continued (my hands hurt hehe)......
