We have finally made it to paradise...well the beach and sun and relaxation at any rate so life's pretty awesome at the moment. We left Surat Thani bright and early on Saturday morning in search of the correct pier having failed to find it the previous night and after a number of stops at the wrong place we finally had tickets to ko phangan. A bus and 2 and 1/2 hour ferry ride later and we had made it to the islands. Having received an email from hostelbookers the day before i confidently told Flo that the hostel was a 5 minute walk from thong sala pier...25 minutes later in the midday sun we were still in search of our hostel. With me declaring "it's round the next bend I'm sure", Flo decided she'd finally had enough of my cluelessness and asked the next cab driver who confidently declared it was indeed round the next bend. It was but it was definitely not a 5 minute walk! However, the hostel was friendly and comfortable and there was a restaurant next door which was cheap as chips, 80 baht (max £2) for chicken with cashew nuts and rice and a drink. Life was good. Unfortunately the nearest 7eleven and atm is a 15/20 minute walk (depending on pace) and on our first outing there we got caught in a tropical rainstorm. We quite literally looked liked we'd walked out the shower but we did come back with cash, water, yoghurts and m&m's! We got chatting to some Norwegian girls in the hostel and played cards with them until the arrival of our old pals from Vietnam and Cambodia- Árni, Gunnar and Chris. Hungry again we headed for Mexican (I know we're in Thailand but it has I be changed up sometimes...) which was delicious before coming back to get painted up for a waterfall party (I never actually saw the waterfall, or any water to be honest!). We have since learnt that for the actual full moon the painting must have some planning and we should preferably be sober as we ended up with some weird and wonderful phrases including Flo and tess across everyone, a LOL on flo's face and much more! Ah well it was a fun night (with terrible music) and an bumpy journey home....
The following day we spent a lazy day at the local beach just sleeping and reading our books so there's not much excitement to report on other that we pretty much feel like we're in paradise considering the craziness of the past 5 weeks. Sleep is definitely on the top of my priority list seeing as i managed 4 hours sleep thanks to someone skyping at 4am or something and my body's unfortunate desire to wake right up at 7am. Can't say I was best pleased. Guess the beach is the best place to be though..anyhow, to save money we ate at a super cheap place again for dinner (once again if was scrummy and thai) before heading out to haad rin beach for the night. It rained once again which was quite refreshing and the music was much better there with fireworks going off regularly. Unfortunately the power is slightly dodgy across Ko phangan and went out at about 1:30am. Great times. The journey back was even more terrifying that evening as it felt like we were on a roller coaster with the number of hills and the speed he was driving at. But we have lived to tell the tale...
The sun is shining today so we're back on the beach :) hope the weathers perked up a bit back home...;)
Lots of love
