By George she's got it!
Haha hello :) just wanted to share my happiness at the fact that two of my women at the carpet factory have now learnt all the way to Tt!!! This might sound odd but it's such an achievement as they did know any letters when I started with them and its so lovely seeing how proud they are of how far they've come. It's made them a lot more eager as everything is clicking into place and they don't feel so daunted any more. We had a good giggle at their hallelujah moment when they recited and wrote all the way to Tt and Lasmi who is a lovely 55 year old lady even said 'I am happy'..we taught them this the other day and my two were too nervous to beer from 'I am fine' before so this was another breakthrough in itself :) Ganga's also getting more confident and is even coming to our class and presenting me with extra homework she's done..result! We usually do our lessons in the little dark room where my women sit by the door as their eyesight isn't great but it's got so hot in there recently that we went outside yesterday. It was really nice being outside on mats but I did have to keep batting away the children who were watching their mothers study and helping them cheat..not the sort of behaviour I condone :) we then had an acting lesson with the children where we pretended to be a lost little old lady, shopkeeper and zoo guide with one of them at a time and practised some English conversation skills. It was great fun and we kept the others involved by getting them to mark our skills out of 10.
Things are also going well in the orphenage school where the children have discovered how good it is when they do extra work to please us so that we can play a game at the end...a ploy that rings a lot of bells :) it does help that I've left school recently as I also know all the cheaty ploys in the games..such as sneakily changing numbers in bingo (a favourite in my French lessons!). It's funny how different it is teaching the women and children as you have to always keep the children motivated and with activities to do (despite the fact that half the class has finished everything whilst the other is still on the first exercise..need more board space!) but they learn very quickly, whilst the women are happy to take things at an easy pace but it takes a long time for them to remember even one letter.
I'm really enjoying the different challenges they're posing though and will be sorry to leave them in a couple of weeks,
Lots of love,
Flo x x x
