Well arrived in Vietnam after a bit of a stressful time at KL airport, I think immigration were on a go slow and they were announcing the last call for boarding and we were still waiting in the queue! We just made it and in now traditional style I managed to sleep all the way!
Everyone warned us about the ho chi Minh city, but even that didn't prepare us! 8 million people and 5 million motorbikes! It has to be seem to be believed. Crossing the road is a challenge, but we mastered it pretty quickly, just step out and don't stop!
The city is great and so are the people. Also it is so cheap. About 30 p for a beer and a 2 course meal with drinks for less than a fiver! Having said that we have spent a lot of money on clothes for ourselves!
Today we went on a tour to the Mekong delta. We went by bus to the river and then boarded a very nice boat for a trip down the delta. The river is like the roads, heaving with traffic! We stopped at a coconut candy workshop and watched them make the sweets in traditional style. Of course we had to try them. Yummy!
We then hopped on a tut tut which is a motorbike taxi for a trip to an orchard. This was an experience as the roads were about 6 inches narrower than the tut tut with river on either side! But we survived!
We sampled some rambutans, dragon fruit, pineapple which they serve with chilli and salt, interesting! And a thing that was like a cross between papaya and kiwi, but all very nice. Most of the cafes have hammock, so victoria took the opportunity to have a bit of a relax! Then it was back on the dreaded tut tut to a restaurant for lunch. Although I'm not a vegetarian, I don't eat much meat and cannot deal with anything I have to fight to eat so the first course of catfish really didn't appeal, when I refused they went running back to the kitchen and got me a plate of pork! After that we had prawns, I like prawns, but not when they are laying there looking at me! I'm such a girl sometimes. Next course was noodle soup which looked really nice but had egg in, I don't do egg for anyone! Then we had some spring rolls I liked those! And then some rice which was also yummy after I had picked all the meat out! And then fruit. I have to say Victoria tried most things which impressed me as she is even worse than me!
After the meal it was back to the river onto a towing boat. It was really peaceful meandering down the small tributaries with our Chinese hats on
Then it was all aboard the big boat for our journey home and a well earned kip on the bus.
We went out for a meal. It's great just sitting watching what people carry on their motorbikes. We saw families of 6 on one bike, a glass door, a pig, several sacks of rice....... It really is entertaining.
After dinner we headed down to the night Market to spend even more money. It's fun haggling. I got an embroidered silk dress for £7!! Bargain and quite fortunate as we put all our dirty clothes out to be laundered, so not sure if they will come back! The last time we saw them, a lady had them tipped out on a table in the dining area counting all our dirty knickers. Think we will give breakfast a raincheck in the morning!!!
