Well a bit of a culture shock here after Singapore. Took ages to get out of the airport as you cant just hop on a taxi, they have to be pre booked! Driving into the city we went past the national stadium, we thought it looked a bit busy. Apparently Liverpool were playing malaysia so our hotel was full of English people, not what we came for but entertaining!
The next day we had a bit of a laze round the pool and then went on a private tour at lunchtime. Our guide was lovely. First of all he took us to a Chinese temple which was huge, but a bit too commercialised for me.
Then we went to the batu caves, a Hindu shrine. There is a 124 ft statue at the entrance, not sure who it is, apologies for my ignorance on the Hindu faith! We had to climb 270 steps up to the caves. Not easy in 37 degrees, plus there were monkeys everywhere , Victoria only had one panic attack when one ran over her! Inside the caves was very interesting and peaceful, many Hindus had made the journey to the top in bare feet.
After the caves we went to a batik factory, a bit dangerous as we spent a fortune there! But it had to be done. After that we went to a pewter factory, we didn't spend anything there, it would have blown the rest of the holiday budget!
On the way home our guide took us on a city tour. We stopped at the national park where Malaya gained their independence and took down the British flag and hoisted their own at 1 minute past midnight In august 1957. This was a bit of an emotional experience for me as it was the flagpole my dad helped to erect when he was stationed here in the 50's.
Afterwards back to the hotel for dinner. I'm afraid Victoria and I had a few more drinks than we set out to, but a good night!
Today we walked to the shops, it was sooo hot! I bought a new camera, but haven't played with it yet
A good but different experience, can't say it's a city I would put on my list of places to come back to. And can't say I would get used to curry, noodles and chicken and rice for breakfast, but it takes all sorts!
