On my way to work at the University this morning I saw an arctic tern (of course making me think of you), and that was just on the pond in the middle of the city! Apparantly they also nest across the road from the house I'll be living in while I do my fieldwork. So maybe you will be seeing these birds for the entire year, but I still think you are missing out by not seeing them here in Iceland.
Keep taking awesome pictures, and take care. Don't let those monster mosquitoes take too much blood.

Hello,
It looks like you are off to a great start. I finally had time to sit down and check out this site. I am really looking forward to working with you and I am sure the kids are going to have a wonderful experience tracking where you are. I will be checking in over the summer but you will be hearing from me more in September when we return to school. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

Andrew,
Wow! What an incredible experience. You were meant to be a scientist. I won't ever forget all those creepy crawlies you were always bringing to my classroom.
Enjoy your adventure. I am looking forward to checking in on you and reading about this most incredible opportunity you have made for yourself.
Have fun and of course be careful.
Eric
Yo Stowe!
so far so good, eh? i'm enjoying the pics and the journal, keep it coming... tho i'm more than a little jealous over all the cool stuff you're goin to see (except the giant mosquitos - ouch! haha). I know its a long ways away but keep me in mind when you're in the carribean, i'll be just a boat-ride away by then.
take it easy man, much love and all that sentimental ish, i'll give Ed a punch in the arm for ya!

Hey there, its great to read your journal so far. I wish you the best of luck. Don't let those mosquitos get to you too much...Im looking forward to seeing your photos. You should seriously stop by madagascar if you are going through South Africa. I dont know if there are terns there, but the lemurs sure are cool! Take it easy, and thanks for taking care of my table.

I was talking to a serious birder last week who explained that this whole arctic tern migration reasearch has been done already, and that it is a generations-old con game that young birders run. Needless to say I was shocked! I am proud of you buddy, way to talk your way to a 25 G vacation. Have a blast, stop in Barcelona to see me, and leave lots of gaps in your research for the next guy.

Drew. I will visit you in Morocco. Or at least try to. Keep us all updated. I love you. Treat my vest respectfully, and remember that, between you and I, it will have been to everyone continent on earth but one, and three twice. Best of luck, etc...

Drew buddy, we're gonna miss you man. I know you love birds, and you're probably going to get lonely out there but be careful. I think man-bird love is illegal in most countries.

Andrew: On the eve of your journey I send heartiest good wishes and again my congratulations on a remarkably imaginative adventure. In addition to Judy Marden's list of hopes for your sightings, I want to add the great Snowy Owl. My own first look at one was more than 50 years ago, in south-central Pennsylvania, when my youthful eyes caught it being chased by a flock of intrepid crows not more than 100 feet above the corn field where I was working. Long live birds of white! Carl.

Andrew, Have a great time. Here's a good website. It says that the arctic tern dive bombs researchers when they approach the nests. I have a hard hat for you. Are you taking a recorder?
