G'day All
On the internal flight over from Sydney to Cairns I was getting worked up about having booked an all female 6 bedroom dorm style room for the next few days, it was cheap, but when I arrived at Gilligans Backpackers & Resort I asked if they had a double room all to myself for my stay. To my relief they said yes and I was prepared to pay the high price no matter what! I'm not a true backpacker am I?! I think you get to a certain age and you prefer to travel in comfort.
I've arrived in Cairns today and boy is it HOT here! It's 35 degrees and forecast to continue for the next few days...woohoo, bring it on!! :-) It doesn't take much time for me to unpack my case and get the bikini on and straight down to the poolside and.....relax!
I had a day at sea with Pro Dive to look forward to, visiting the Outer Barrier Reef. Just before leaving Cairns Jetty Marina, all the divers kitted up and prepared their tanks for our first dive.
We motored the vessel to the dive site by a large 25 passenger comfortable boat witha top deck (to sunbathe) as we left Cairns Jetty Marina at 8.30am for an hour journey. We dived Thetford Reef which was awesome. This was my first dive with an underwater camera, so I had to concentrate much more...hence the short dive time only lasting 45 mins with a maximum dive time of 60 minutes. On this dive we saw sea cucumbers, angel fish, anenome fish, a turtle, very large clams, fan coral, lots of species of sponges and many many more. It wasn't as colourful as I thought it would be and this is because the water temperatures are rising year by year and the sea bed it bleaching fast, which is really sad.
I visited an Aboroginal Culture Park
