ROADTRIPPPP! dude.
So after a year of skypes and whatsapp messages me and benji kels are reunited at Melbourne Airport about to embark on a 3 day roadtrip along the Great Ocean Road! Excited does not cover it! We have hired a car, packed up some clothes and are ready to go!
The car turned out to be a massive success.. A little red i20! It was cute and new and oh wait, an automatic. Now to a normal person this isn't a problem and in hindsight it wasn't for me really however, after only ever driving a manual the fear of stalling a car that couldn't be stalled was overwhelming - so I made Ben drive first!
We hit up google maps and got the iPod working and headed to a place called Torquay which would get us on the coast road! It was amazing seeing Ben again it was as if he had never been away!
The day had started of really sunny and fairly warm.. We were pulling in to viewing points all the way along making sure we didn't miss anything! We drove for miles and then finally stopped for food and a break at a place called Apollo Bay. Now Melbourne is notorious for having all four seasons in one day and after coming from Asia I was a little naive in thinking that Australia was going to be hot.. After all when I landed it was just 6' .. London was 18'! So I invested in a hoodie, I didn't know at this time the weather was only going to get worse!
It then became really cold and quite windy as we were going along and then we came across 'Gibsons Steps'.. Unknown to us this was the other side of the famous apostles! So we take a stroll down the steps thinking it's just a beach, there is a rock coming out of the sea however we thought it was just an odd one! We took photos, managed a few selfies and even did some rock climbing with us daydreaming whilst looking out to sea! After a while we decided to head back to the car, just in time as it started to rain! Brilliant.
Time was getting on an we had decided to stay at a place called Port Campbell. This was very near the end of the Great Ocean Road with only a few more stops after it. The weather got worse so we heads straight to Pt. Campbell and found the hostel.. This was going to be my first Australian hostel so I was hoping it was just as nice as the Asian ones! Luckily it was and for the price wasn't to bad. Handy as I was becoming poorer by the day! Now this 'town' consists of a hostel, a homemade petrol station, an information centre and a pub/restaurant. How can people live without a co-op or McDonald's??! Clearly we weren't going to be doing anything but getting an early night tonight!
We just got some dinner, which really was revolting, and just went back to the hostel about 9pm .. Did a little 3 way FaceTime back home and then was in bed asleep by 10.. My life is just too rock and roll..
