Last night we were abducted by aliens. It's true. So we waited all day for this bus that didn't leave till 9pm and about an hour before we left some people turned up at our hostel that were from just north of Brighton and they were 19 years old - crazy!!! So it was a shame that we had to leave because that was the first time that we had met somebody the same age as us.
Then Negra, the hostel's dog escaped and we had to catch her - this was at about 8:55pm, dog gets caught and we are on our way until lo and behold Toby had forgotten his hat so i wait in the pavement with all the bags whilst he runs back. Its now like 8:59. We power walk to the bus terminal just to wave the bus down as its reversing out to leave. Run on to the bus and sit down panting. So again it was rushed - im sure that there is a pattern emerging here.
Now the next 11 hours is a blur. 10 minutes in to the journey the television comes on with a hypnotic screen that causes eyes to feel heavy and makes you unable to move. It was as if we had been drugged. Then we fall asleep and wake up at about 1am and the bus is baking hot. Literally like being somewhere along the equater it was so hot. I believe this was the aliens way of keeping us asleep and keeping those who woke up very lathargic and we fall back to sleep. Then 45mins before we are due to arrive at the Santiago bus station the steward comes up and opens up the windows, thus waking everyone up although everyone looked around confused as though they had no idea what had happened. It is for this reason that the obvious conclusion was that we had been abducted. There was no other possible explanation.
So now we are in Santiago unable to move due to prolonged muscle sores from the dreaded volcano. Seriously, i never knew muscles in the small of my waist existed and all my leg muscles hurt. If we sit down it takes a long time to get back up so I suppose the best thing is to stay on the move but we are so so tired.
We are going to get some food from the supermarket soon and in the next few days there is a museum we want to see with mummies and ancient chilean ceramic work and tapestries, as well as a beautiful palace and a walk to the Metropolitan gardens where there is a zoo and swimming pools and a large rocky peak to hike up.
Our flight leaves on Saturday and we are both beginning to get excited about the prospect of being in New Zealand and getting to see our friends. There are about 4 people who we have arranged to meet up with so that should be good.
And lastly, it seems that some of our wonderful readers feel that it is not necessary to respond to our blogs. I don't think they understand that it is infact compulsary seeing as we spend hours writing them for your entertainment and deserve at least a 2minute comment just to let us know that you are all still thinking of us. I mean really, is it all that much to ask?
Well we hope you are all well and enjoying the heatwave.
Lots of love
Tegan
