After 28 hours of travelling by boat, minibus, tuk tuk, VIP "double bed" sleeper bus and the rusty bus from hell we made it to Vang Vieng. Only 2 minor accidents on the WAY. First one was Russ (enough said) and the other was the rusty bus having it's wing mirror knocked off by a passing lorry and the back window breaking in half by one of the Yorkshire lads, Jack from the rusty bus crew!
We could have walked it from the bus station to town but we ended up haggling with a tuk tuk to take us to the Rusty Bus Crew accommodation. We realised we could have actually saved the money and walked it to the nicer part of town.
So Vang Vieng...a quiet and peaceful oasis, where our room overlooked the tranquil river and cute riverside bungalows. Unbeknown to us the island turned into an all night rave from dusk til dawn.
So, where were all the people? TUBING! We had to get in on this action. The tuk tuk took us upstream, where we scrambled, shoeless over rocks to get to a boat. This is where it was happening. From the other side of the water a full on dance party was happening. About 200 people jumping up and down on a shack on the water with pumping music. Without us even able to protest, the local Lao whiskey was poured into our faces! Hadd a beer and tubed across the water to the next bar. We coudl see why there are so many accidents a year. Most of the people were 18-30! Ended up tubing back int he dark during a thunderstorm and rain but we made it to the riverband and climbed out onto sandbanks.
More to come...time running out at the internet cafe :)
