Greetings all.
We are now one week into a WWOOF in Takapau, helping out (another) Brit who has defected to the other side. Don't worry too much, the midges are currently still deterring us from following suit.
Paul who we are staying with is setting up his house to become a homestay, so we are helping sort out the gardens and forest areas on the property to be a bit more hospitable. This means - machines! We have been using a plethora of different high powered, gas powered gadgets, including a chainsaw (see Mike being all manly? A common occurance here). I am now Queen of the Mulcher, which is a violent yet satisfying machine that can tear up a felled tree in minutes. The only problem is we keep fighting over who gets to drive the sit and ride lawnmower.
Also a bonus here, is that Paul is a man who enjoys his fine NZ wines, and also likes to share them. Te Mata Estate produces damn tasty wine, and their Gamay Noir is one to try, if you can.
Mike is currently dusting off his lighting design skills, as Paul has a friend who is having a church relocated onto the grounds of his estate to use as an event space - sounds crazy, but its true. Mike is playing around with designs for the church lighting. Peter and Dianne own and are renovating an old mansion, you can see more of it on their website - http://oruawharo.com/. Not your everyday kind of project.
We should be sticking around here until the end of the month, before carrying on down to Palmerston North, and then Wellington.
Lou and Mike x
