Buenos Aires - Part 2
A must see in B.A is a Futbol match, I am not a big football fan...but I loved it!! A group of us went to see Boca Juniors vs Arsenal FC (nothing to do with the English Premier League team). They advise tourist to book your tickets through a tour operator for safety and we'd heard lots of crazy stories of riots etc so I was a bit apprehensive before the match. A bus picked us up (about 30 of us) outside Millhouse Hostel and we all headed to the pub for pre match drinks. Then we were escorted by our guide into the ground, through lots of security surrounded by shed loads of armed police. I thought we'd be in a small "tourist stand" somewhere in the ground but our tickets were for the main standing section in with the true Boca fans. The atmosphere was amazing...even before kick off!! Fireworks going off everywhere, lots of chanting and its a tradition that when the teams come out everyone throws small bits of ripped up newspaper that fall onto the pitch like snow. I was getting well involved with the chanting (not that I had a clue what they were saying but I was trying to mimic the words best as possible). When Boca scored the crowd went wild and the whole stadium started jumping up and down like mad men. It was fantastic and we won 2-1 which made it even better. A Definate "Must Do" for anyone going to South America, regardless weather you are into football or not. We didn't come across any trouble but the police do keep the home fans locked in the groud until the away fans have left the vicinity.
The following morning we headed to San Telmo Sunday Markets where I brought a "Mate" starter pack, which is a traditional Argentina drink like herbal tea, that has an effect similar to Red Bull... very much needed after a big night out. Monday was Vic's last night so we'd organised to go to the all you can eat buffet for big feed. Easton thought he'd be daring & try an Argentine delicacy...cow intestine!! As quick as he'd chewed it he'd spat it back into the napkin. Needless to say I wasn't as stupid!!
Overall really enjoyed the trips we'd done in B.A, but not sure I'd go as far to say that the city was the best placed we'd visited so far. The hostel we'd stayed at and the people we'd met there definatly made our stay more enjoyable!!
