Marhaba! (Welcome, thou can also be used as hello!)
We arrived to Amman early on saturday morning, and now after 3 days I can tell you one thing: I like it here! The food is great, we have been eating different jordanian dishes (although not yet the national dish which -if we are lucky - contains a head of a lamb..) and they ahve been delicious! The food is well spiced, but mostly not too much, lots of eating with a help of a piece of bread and hands. And the best part: it's cheap! A plentiful (indeed) dinner of 4 main courses, rice, huge table filling naan-like bread and side slalads for four with bottle water costs 12JD, equal of 12EUR...
We (Boel, Karin, Evelina and I) live now in an apartment right next to the Jordan German university where we study. Sabina will arrive tonight. We lived the first two nights with a girl named Tamara, but because she lived quite far from the university and we could get a lot bigger apartment for the same price so close to the uni, we moved. She is supernice and teaching us all about the culture and how to do, so it's a pity not to live with her anymore. Well, as soon as we moved here, we were "adopted" by some students who've been driving us around to the mall and to fix everything. We are so pampered that my "i can do it myself"-Finnish-independent-woman-ego has hard time... But i'm smiling, it's the way it is here.
From the big mall, the Citymall (and I don't really mean big, i mean HUGE) you can get anything you would buy back home (ok no rye porrige or dark bread but you get the point), most of the stuff a bit cheaper but there are expensive things too. All teh basic necessities are obviously cheaper here and when we head to the markets some day soon we get to hold on to our travel budgets cause then there will be scarfs etc etc that is on the shopping list. What we did in teh big mall yesterday was just to get some basics to our apartment, like towels, shampoos, some food etc.
The computer lab is closing at 5 so i have to get going. You can see pictures in Boel's travel diary: http://www.resdagboken.se/Default.aspx?documentId=3§ion=myimagegalleries&journeyId=365826&userID=265148
Will get back to you soon! Miss you all terribly, althou it is GREAT here! you should be here too :) And to all who is worried, it is safe here and we don't go around alone and so forth. Jordan is a good country!
