Packing, packing, packing...
Only three more nights and I will be on my first travel to the Arab world, and also to the Middle East. I have been surfing the net for countless hours to read about travel tales of people, recommendations of what not to miss and what to avoid, about "modest" clothing and how to behave, stay safe, food, looking for hostels... Most of this to ease the high-rising travel fever, but obviously I have even gained some good tips etc.
I will be studying a course for four weeks in Amman, the capital of Jordan, in the German Jordanian University, a complementary of EU and a result of co-operation of my uni in Umeå, Tampere Technical uni and the uni of Bonn. I won't be traveling alone, but with four other girls from Umeå and we are all really excited about this opportunity to study and live in Amman for a month and to travel around to see what Jordan has to offer during the weekends. We will especially see the ruins in Petra, Wadi Rum desert and the Dead Sea, but there will for sure be more. After the study period Måns will join as, and the plan is to continue to Syria for about a week before Måns and I will travel to Istanbul to catch a flight to Helsinki and to Vaasa for a quick Finland visit.
As said this will be the first time traveling in an Arab country, or countries. It feels against all senses to be packing long-sleeves instead of miniskirts and tubetops to the country of +40°C, but I can't expect the people there to respect me if I don't respect their culture. So, on with the burkha! Or not, it's not really that strict of an Arab country, both Jordan and Syria are quite accepting, but it is still advised to dress "modest": covering upper arms and legs as well as cleavage.
3 more nights!
