We spent 6 crazy days in Tokyo walking, riding the subway, and swinging across the spectrum from traditional gardens, customs, and temples - to - robot fights, akihabara arcades, and harajuku fashion watching. The city was an amazing mish-mash of the tranquility of the cherry blossom festival and the frenetic energy that Tokyo radiates. The sushi was great, the people were helpful and friendly, and the culture was everything it was billed to be This was the first city that we were truly not ready to leave, but were forced to press on due to already planned time in Kyoto and cost (priced like South America: it was not). We have already started scheming up ways we can get back to Tokyo...
Highlights:
- Cherry Blossom festival - visiting the parks around Tokyo during this amazing time of year
- Robot Restaurant - a bizarro-land combination of scantily-clad girls, giant remote-control robots, and deafening music
- Sushi breakfast at the fish market
- Views from above - at Tokyo Tree and at the New York Bar (the bar from Lost in Translation)
P.S. We are very sorry that it has been so long since our last actual blog update. We were stalled by the triple threat of our quickening pace of travel, planning logistics and accommodations as we go, and getting enough internet bandwidth to backup our photos. We are going to be posting shorter updates more frequently while on the road, and then when we get home in August we will figure out a way to fill in the details.
