This place is stunning. An absolutely serene setting for my birthday. Our first night under the stars was magical, a nature fix that was required after the excess of Vegas!
These mountains are phenomenal!! My first way to take in the scenery of Zion was by bike. Such a perfect ride especially since the only shuttle is the only vehicle allowed on that red rock road that leads you through. Plus going downhill back to camp brings out the inner child :)
My birthday was all about the Narrows. A hike through the Virgin River with towering red rock mountains on either side. The catch is you spend most of that hike in 50 degree water. Sam found for us walking sticks and the monkey toe shoes were perfect on the rocky riverbed. It's one of those moments where you truly get a sense of just how fantastic mother nature is and how small one being can be in such a vast landscape. After three and half hours, we decided to turn back. And once on dry land Sam had a birthday drink in celebration, Jameson's in a flask. Quite a delicious victory drink!
Back our campsite we caught a ranger talk and took in the stars, enjoying some gooey yummy B-day S'mores!
The next day unsure if we had time or the treacherousness we decided to go up, way up Angel's Landing. Our kind of dopey server in Vegas told us once he got to the chains he turned back. We realize now he was a wimp! Maybe because I was expecting something like Half Dome in Yosemite. We both enjoyed the ascend and the was spectacular. It was perfect timing for Sam to discover the panoramic feature on his camera!
With two more strenuous hikes under our belts we headed through the East Side tunnel and enjoyed the scenic drive along highway 12 to Bryce Canyon.
