Our drive from Zion was a very picturesque and it began our journey along highway 12 a beautiful stretch that goes from Bryce to Bolder, Utah.
We arrived at Ruby's checked out our new digs, a 16' tipi with antelopes on the sides, quite fetching homestead I must say! We hopped on our bikes and rode right into Bryce Canyon National Park just in time for sunset at Fairyland Point. The first time I've seen hoodoos, the pink rock formations that make the canyon so impressive. Back at our tipi we had a glorious fire by a sky full of stars and a delicious dinner of campfire quesadillas, a new fave! We had such a roaring fire we didn't realize the night had become quite chilly 34 degrees --or 2 degrees Celsius for the Canucks! ;) A very cold night for sure.
May 11- The buffet seemed the best option after our 'Tipi freeze.' We enjoyed an endless lunch with many German tourists and ironically only 4 percent beer. Utah allows for a low 85 octane gas but no more than 4 percent 'octane' in their beer! Bahaha!
We then hiked in all our glory through Bryce Canyon from Inspiration Point, the Navaho loop, Queens Head Trails and ended at Sunrise Point. We picked up the pace past all the camera trigger happy tourists, so we could enjoy the peacefulness hiking through and watching the clouds shift around the hoodoos. The sky clouded over briefly and allowed for some really neat lighting for photos and Sam captured neat panoramic shots. As sunset approached a trio of deer crossed right in front of our tipi. We were getting entertainment from the speed trap right by the highway, funny to watch as it tracked cars and inevitably every one slowed their speed. And then the magic of the stars and the campfire took over and we layered up for a warmer, more prepared sleep this time.
