Greg and I booked our most anticipated tour of the Neighbours experience for what we thought was a bargain $30 each! Oh how wrong we were! What a dog show! It was meant to last for 3 hours, but after 1hr ½ we had got back to the city center….!
We earlier had hopped on to the genuine Tour bus along with a group of lads from Manchester – luckily for us, they were golden and well funny! So far so good….On the bus we had a choice of a “classic” episode to watch on the way to Erinsbrough High, so after a vote, it was to be Daphne’s death from 1986 (we couldn’t remember it!)
We arrived at the school, the scene of the first lesbian kiss in the program (more useless info to come courtesy of our rubbish guide) and had our picture taken etc….great…back on the bus….
We thought we were on the way to see the studios where they actually film, but this is where the tour went downhill rapidly…we pulled over on the hard shoulder of a highway, when our guide said “If you look to your right, over the first fence, past those trees and the next fence, you can see the studios where they do all the filming”…Silence struck the bus as we realized this was as close as we were actually going to get to seeing anything to do with the filming side of things! It gets better…our guide then breaks the silence by saying “If you look at the top of the trees you can see they are still burnt from when Lou’s pub got blown up”…More silence as it dawned on us all how crap this tour was getting! Gregs best bit was when we drove into a car park where the production trucks are kept! Oh my god!
We got to Ramsay Street 20mins later, sorry, a Cul – de – Sac not even called Ramsay Street where all the external shots are filmed…Ok so it was funny to see Harolds house (greg was now in his element) and all the others, we had some pics with the sign and heard all the gossip and history of each house (yawn – can we go yet?) The houses are lived in full-time, with the house owners having to move their cars off their drives when filming occurs and also they aren’t allowed to modify the houses or gardens without permission from the TV company who then write the DIY into a storyline! Watch out for Harold re-paving his driveway!! There’s also a waiting list to buy a property on the road…think Greg is keen on joining it!
We piled back into the bus, all of us wondering what or where we were going next? Home was the answer, tour over, half the scheduled time, no filming seen, no star meeting, just a tub of pic n mix to share between us…”Is this the consolation prize or $30 worth of sweets?” was just 1 of a few choice questions asked by the Manc lads! They weren’t happy and let the guide know it! We did get to see another classic episode on the way home though…Jim’s Death!! Brilliant! Summed it up!
P.S Toadie doesn't die after being shot...sorry if thats ruined the storyline for all you girlies who watch the rubbish!! Haha!
