Hello Hello Hello.
Don't really know how to explain how awesome today has been!!
After having a cracking meal last night in the Australian bar and watching some football we woke up this morning with one thing in our minds... mopeds.
Swiftly after handing over a mere 200 baht (4 pounds, or 6 dollars (Mom) ) we were given some keys and a helmet and a lady pointed at two bikes... Surely, for two 18 year olds who have never ridden mopeds or anything close to just give them keys and not tell them anything about how to work it etc was a recipy for death... But hey, im alive so it works :D
So after spending 20 minutes whispering 'how the hell do we start these things?' to each other we sacked it off and asked the lady... the excuse that our motorbikes at home were different to thai ones worked and she showed us how embarassingly simple it was, something about pressing the on button and turning the key to on or whatever...
We then sped off over the dodgy road surface and hit the main road... Koh Samui is basically made up of a ring of roads, one being called the main ring road that went around the whole island we decided to stick to that! Keep it simple!
Straight off we noticed we had b***** all gas so we had to cough up a mere 80p for a full refil and that set us on our ways! We were both seriously impressed with how nippy they are! The 'Polo' back home now looks like a traktor at traffic lights!!
We then headed straight off to the Big Buddha (Photos later) and had a browse at a big golden dude that people digged. An ice cream later we moved onto Chaweng which is the Hollywood of Koh Samui and by that i mean the busy interesting town part thing... We parked up and checked out several places to eat and eventually consumed some wicked Calamari and Fried rice for nothing at all and then straight back into the 'Hells Angels' mode!
Once crusing on the main road at about 70kmh we then noticed the speed limit...40. Whoops... Our rebelious sides and the lack of any other vehicles soon carried on at a pace and had a great time! Speed cameras are something unheard of here as our police! Haven't seen a single policeman in Thailand as of yet!
We moved onto the a set of Waterfalls next... after parking up we walked into a crowd of elephants and baby tigers which was awesome!! We then hiked for half an hour up a dodgy road to be met by some pretty average waterfalls... An american geezer then told us that the other one's called Hi Lan or something were better... so we went to say hello to Lan. (funny joke, funny guy.)
This was a bad move... 10 minutes down the road we pulled up and began what was to be an hours long hike, in flip-flops, through a forest! Narrowly avoiding massive spiders and snakes we got incredibly sweaty climbing the 2km 'track' up hill... As we got near the top we couldn't cope with the heat so wimped out and headed back from being about 500m away (which is a LONG way when it's uphill with snakes and no path!!) We then adviced some french folk behind us that it was not worth it! They then followed us down.
Back on the bikes and knackered from the hiking we jumped back to the hostel and ran into the sea...hoping Ben wouldn't get stung by another Jellyfish...
Just had some beers on the beach and chilling out for the evening now!!
Leaving Koh Samui tomorrow and heading to Koh Phagnan... the next island, slightly North of here... about an hour away by ferry!
Anyway, hope the world is well!!
Much Tom Love you lucky people...
