Well I finally made it to Africa!! We are now sitting in our hotel in Arusha right outside of Kiliminjaro National Park. The three fights we took were pretty good. I slept most of the way so it made it the 20 hour flight alot better.
Once we arrived in Arusha, we were instantly greeted by a swarm of bugs and fist size bettles. Ryan (our professor) lost a bag that somehow never even got on the plane in Atlanta. Once we stepped outside the airport we were greeted by 15 or so people shaking our hands and giving us hugs. It apparently was all of Ryan's family and friends. They were som nice and were so eager to show us around and teach us Swahili.
We took a van to the hotel. I was hoping to see alot of the landscape but it was dark. I did get to see the AMAZING stars. They were so bright. It was really crazy to look at the big dipper. I guess you never realize how small you really are until you look up.
Once we arrived to the hotel ,3 men dressed like Massai unloaded our bags. Apparently the Massai are guards to protect the compound around us. All they had were big sticks but I trust that they will prtect us. The owner of the hotel kept the restaurant open almost 4 hours just so that we had had dinner. I had a spicy chichen schwarma which was pretty much a chichen quesadilla without the cheese.
So far my experience here in Africa is pretty good. I really like all the students and Ryan's family is so great. I cant wait to spend more time with them later on in the trip.
I love you all and I miss you already!! Until next time!
