we have been in luang prabang for a few days now. Vang Vieng was amazing. it was so beautiful. we arrived pretty late our first night, so we went for dinner and had the largest pizzas ive ever had. was a little sick the next day. but on our first whole day we went on the infamous tubing trip down the Nham Song river. you just walk up to this little shack with tons of intertubes, pay for which length you want, we went with the 8 km trip, and they drop you off at the river. it was so scenic, the rivr was lined with huge limestone cliffs and the land land was so beautiful. we met a bunch of people so we kind of all floated down together. it was great. the weather was perfect, and very hot. it took an hour or so to make it to the first "bar" so we stopped for a beerlao. there was a zipcord and some ropeswings. john was doing backflips and other tricks. we kept floating and stopped to eat at another 'bar". it was now about 5 hours later, we were pretty drunk and there was a huge rope swing, which john did one last swing and we were on the final stretch with our take-away beer. some more floatinga nd drinking, and then all of a sudden it was pitch black and freezing. we found our exit and headed home. we were shattered so we called it a night.
the next morning we woke and met up with some aussie guys we tubed with. we rented some scooters and went to find some caves and lagoons. we made it about 7kms, and stopped off for a swim. it was so nice. the water was bright blue and nice and cold. then we went into the cave, which was a steep climb, but worth it. we walked pretty deep into the cave with our 2 flashlights, which was a challenge. spent a little over an hour in the cave and then went straight back to the lagoon. before it became too late, we went for a long ride out into the country side. it was incredible. john and i had to fix our tire, but it was fine. the ride qwas the best part of the day.we took some great photos.
we had one more day in vang vieng, but we decided to chill out and i had to look for flights home for a while. we booked our bus and we left the next morning for Luang Prabang.
the bus ride to LP was not very far, but took forever. the bus had to meander along the sides of these huge cliffs only going about 30 km\h. but it was still nice to look at.
Our first night here, we saw a vegetable stirfry buffet on the side of the road for only $0.50. so we ate there. as we were leaving we saw that you could have the food heated up in a wok, well we missed that part so we had our stuff cold, but it was still nice. so the next morning john wakes up completely sick, fever and puking!!!! we decide to move to an aircon guesthouse, and he stayed in bed for the whole day and slept. so i was the caretaker, and just watched movies all day.he was better the next day, but we took it easy. Its really beautiful here. there are rivers on every side it feels, and it is nice and cool. there is a bit more of fancier feel to this place. a lot more older people and very nice restaurants and hotels.
Last night we went out for Thanksgiving dinner. we went to the Lao Lao Garde and had a lao-style turkey barbecue dinner. it was awesome. they brought out this huge hot coal pit and placed it in a hole in our table. then set the grill\pot over it. then you add all the veggies, chilli, garlic, and noodles. then you cook all the meat on top so the juices flavor the broth. we had turkey, chicken, pork, and buffalo. it was delicious!!!!
so now we are waiting to get on the bus to Thailand!!! it will take almost 24 hours to get to Chiang Mai, but we are stoked to be going to Thailand!!! ur last destination!!!
hopefully i can get these pics up soon!!!
