Today is sweet , didn't get much sleep . The monkeys kept me up. They seem to like the tree on top of my cabin and enjoy talking all night and banging on the roof . I have to say at first I was scared . Had couple bad dreams that woke me up also . Today I just chilled . I ate breakfast at 7:30 am , walked around a bit looking for wild life . Found some monkeys finally walking on the tree tops. Tried to take some pictures but my zoom sucks so it's hard to see. Still no toucans yet, saw some birds with yellow tails, pretty cool . Went to tan for 2 hours and the sun was blazing hot. Got super dark and need to re apply lotion or I'm done for. Finally was able to do laundry and only cost me a two dollar tip. Amazing my clothes don't smell anymore and some were wet for hours. I went and ate lunch at the lodge and this guy who works there ( I will find out his name , let's say Leno ) served me my lunch. Chicken and rice with salad , beans and squash I believe. Quite tasty . After lunch I had not much to do . We were trying to see when I can do the turtle tour as it's huge here to save them and watch them nest. So i will do my part and partake . Leno and I ended up chilling since he had to stay till 5:30 anyway. He gave me a beer , then made me a awesome drink. Rum lime juice and fresser. Si awesome, he was a bartender on a carribean ship and his English is great. He has 2 kids one 2 and one 6 . His family is creole and mixed with Spain and France. Crazy . He's the most helpful guy so far and so down to earth. He introduced me to this bartender Kevin who works at the lodge next door . He's creole also. Chatted with him and Leno for awhile then went to shower and stuff . I met Leno in the front and we took a boat for locals only. I feel special. As we got off a boas we saw a stretcher and a man covered in a blanket with blood seeping through. Leno told me he dead but we didn't know how. He walked with me to the soccer field which they call it football and called over a distant cousin to come over. He got me some pot and I paid four bucks for a bag. He then showed me 3 places to eat good carribean food . He said he will go shower and meet me where the boats are at 7 pm . He asked what I was going to do and so being solo I really didn't know. Told him I guess I'll wonder around and see . So ya he said meet him for a drink at 7 . And I guess I'll go eat or he will walk me there to make sure I'm ok as I told him how easily I got lost yesterday. Plus it's pitch dark at 6 pm. Currently it's 6:27 pm and I came back to the place buddah cafe as I was yesterday, think all I have to do is walk to the right and that's where the boats are. I'm chilling in the village until 9 cause then I'll go on the turtle tour. So he said to have some drinks with him. Totally down as meeting locals is the best way to understand culture , get to know other locals and be shown the real country. Tomorrow I have to be up at 5:30 as I'm doing a canoe trip to the national park and 6 am is the best chance to see wild life . I'm excited to smoke a small joint later and save some for tomorrow. I just need rollies but I'll just ask Leno. He will hook me up. This village is small it's on a island and I can still get lost ha ha. Only me . But when it's dark it's dark . Locals hang out outside on bikes , walk around . Men always say hi to you and if your lost they will try to point you to the right direction, when I get home I'm learning Spanish for sure. While I was In the pool today I met a 21 year old guy who works at the lodge. We tried to talk to eachother with him speaking no
Spanish and me a little , since I have been practicing and using it for the past week. I was able to find out that his name is Jonathan and he's 21. He lives in the village, as all of them and paints, took him 2 hours for a small canvas . I showed him my phone apps and the Spanish English one he thought was cool . Then I went to tan and he went somewhere. About 15 min later he came back and shook my hand and said nice to meet you in Spanish. Very polite with a smile . He also told me soon he will try to learn English and most tourist speak English , so to converse will be much easier . Ok I'll update you after wards .
So I met leno at 7 and we went to a local bar and had a beer , open in the background to the water . I paid for his drink, it's the least I can do . Then I got hungry and see he brought me to a small restaurant called miss Miriam for carribean food, had some chicken , rice , pinto , and salad. It wasn't really carribean but still tasty . Leno walked me there and stayed with me as well . We talked about his family and living here . They get paid on a card and use that card for bills and cash for food . I met his daughter the older one and nephew who just got here a month ago from Nicaragua. And his wife who he speaks creole with . His sister is getting married in a couple weeks as well . Tortuguero started in 1940 then started to develop in 1970"s And now is great . It's a community . Now there's hotels ( cabins ) and schools and a clinic and tourist attractions and clothe stores.
Then we went to chill with the guide for the tour and had another drink and i met 2 of his friends. One shook my hand and said nice to meet you in Spanish. And the other bumped my fist ha ha . It was chill . At 9:30 pm my guide and I went to pick up some other tourists for the turtle tour 2 from Spain 2 from Winnipeg and 4 annoying ones . 3 chicks and a boyfriend . They weren't friendly and this one chick is Someone I would want to hit in the face , sucking face with her bf and just uh not my type. Anyway we walked ten min to the national park and it actually was insane, turtles come from the water , this green turtle made itself a hole in the sand about 7 feet long , the turtle is 5 feet long and huge . I was in shock as I was expecting much snapper turtle ., the turtle we watched layed 150 eggs around , which is cool to watch it live. Then his back feet start to move and compacts the eggs with the sand and puts them in a ball of sand. Then starts the camoflauge. Process which takes 35-40 min, the turtle slowly uses his back front legs to shoot sand on it to hide them. After watching this for 40 min the eggs are hidden under the sand and you would never know. Then the turtle slowly makes it way back to the ocean . It was much cooler than I thought it was going to be . Then I came back to the lodge , tried some of that weed . It definitely gave me a kick , I was in heaven . Very sticky and with stems , still chill , passed out and on to the next day
