Just arrived in Boumalne-du-Dades after a fabulous few days in the High Atlas Mountains. We have driven 100's of km on rough tracks right into the heart of the mountains - and have been rewarded by sights of nomadic Berber families, herding their goats, sheep, donkeys & camels through the mountains. At first glance everything seems dry and arid. However there is plenty of water up there - underground springs bubble to the surface frequently, creating amazing fertile regions amongst the dry, rocky mountains. Highest pass we climbed was just under 3000m.
A days rest yesterday, just above the Gorges du Todra - we found a beautiful Kashbah Hotel with the great luxury of a swimming pool. Itchy got her weekly full service as did Clive & I. Great local food - with mint tea being served every hour or so. We didn't actually stay in teh hotel of course - camped by their pool!!! After getting impatient that dinner was an hour late on the first night - we sheepishly realised that we had forgoten to change our watches & have been working off the wrong time for over a week now! Doh!
Now off into the Sahara for a bit of dune spotting....
Thanks for all your messages - it's great to know you are all following the trip & lovely to read all your comments.
