This is my last journal entry so I'll try and keep it relatively short... As you all know I'm no longer in SA but this journal page didn't have Southampton under the traveling places section not sure why....! Ok, so climbed Table mountain on the Thursday then 2 trips to the cinema and then Tom left. It was fine being on my own though as I'd actually made good friends with some of the people who worked in the hostel so I actually wasn't on my own. Just chilled out on the Saturday as the weather was rubbish once again! Sunday meant it was time for my skydive and luckily the weather was amazing! I did have to wait until the afternoon to do it though which meant I got to think about it for longer! I wasn't too nervous actually, until I got to the edge of the plane hatch at 9000ft that is! But then I didn't have a choice as the instructor was in charge of throwing us out of the plane! It was absolutely amazing though and I'm SO glad I did it, I've got the DVD as proof as well which I'll show you all if you haven't already seen it - definitely worth a laugh!
Monday was SO sunny it was brilliant, I made a place for myself to lay in the garden at the hostel which involved the transformation of a picnic bench into a sun lounger, did get some funny locks but had to work on the tan! In the afternoon, a few of us went down to the waterfront for dinner and just to chill out, definitely the best place to chill in Cape Town as it's beautiful and has really nice restaurants and shops.
Tuesday was my last day in Cape Town and I'd arranged a Cape Penninsula tour which was really good. Firstly we went out on a boat to Dyer island which has loads of seals on it, it was cool but did smell a tad! Then we went ot Chapmans peak which was nice, few more pics....! You're lucky I didn't upload all of my pics, not sure there's enough room on the world wide web for that! Next stop was Boulders beach which is where there are loads of penguins and beautiful beaches, like the one in the pic. I sent ages trying to work out what it is about penguins that makes them SO funny?!? I think it must have something to do with their walk or should I say waddle... Then we went down through the Cape of Good Hope national park, lots of flora and fauan, great if thats your thing - not mine. This did involve a bike ride though, possibly the easiest and shortest bike ride ever though which really helped as I am definitely out of shape! After lunch we went down to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope which is the most South Westerly point in Africa. It was really really pretty so again a load more pics had to be taken!
Left Cape Town Wednesday which was weird as I had actually settled in there after being there for 10 days, not too painful to leave though as it was pouring with rain! Onwards to JoBurg where I managed to find some sunshine! Met a nice English couple who were staying in my hostel and went for drinks with them which was brilliant as they paid for the lot - exactly the type of people you need to meet traveling! Thursday I went to the Apartheid museum which was the only thing I really wanted to do whilst in JoBurg and was well worth the 3 hours I spent there. It's such an interesting part of South African history and explains a hell of a lo about why South African is the way it is now. In the evening I went out with a contact of my dads which was really good as her and her friends showed me Phuzza Thursday which is basicaly where everyone starts off the weekend the way they mean to go on - getting realy drunk! They were all really nice though and was good to get out of the hostel which you can't just do on your own!
Friday was time to fly home which was SO bizarre! It seems so weird that my time in Africa is over now, well for the time being anyway! It was definitely one of the experiences I will never ever forget, I saw so much, met so many amazing people and did so many things! Doing Ghana and then Southern Africa was definitely a good choice as they couldn't be any more different from each other. Ghana is basic, rural and has amazing children, the Africa I expected, it also has the friendliest local people I've ever met, I really did enjoy every single minute of being an obruni! Swaziland is also an amazing country with really friendly welcoming people and some of the most adorable children you'll ever met. It also allowed me to feel like I was doing something worthwhile and leaving something behind at the school that will make a difference which was so rewarding. South Africa is a bit of a different story, its much more westernised and wins hands down scenery and activity wise, my month of traveling down the coast was absolutely brilliant, but socially it still has a very very long way to go. I'm really glad I got to see a few of the contrasts within Africa, a place that has the most amazing children, I miss already and one that is definitely in my blood now! I can't wait to go back, let me know if you want to come! Tania x
