Tom & Jo's Excellent Adventure
Just left Chiang Mai, much more relaxed than Bangkok thankfully!! We have done a 3 day trek into the jungle and stayed in a couple of bamboo huts talking and, dare I say, dancing into the night around the campfire. Also went elephant riding which was fantastic but at the same time a little scary as we walked along a ledge that was narrower than the beast and it was a 300 foot drop down to the bottom - these things don't have seatbelts you know!! Met some nice people from Sweden and the UK. Went up to the Golden Triangle which is where the borders of Burma, Thailand and Laos meet on the Mekong River. It's golden because they used to deal in opium there and the only currency accepted was GOLD! There we do listen to the guides! Also went to visit a longneck tribe - the ones that put rings around their necks for beauty. It was interesting to see them but felt like you were at the zoo. Moved from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong where we will cross the river into Laos where we catch a speed boat to Lung Prabang. Until the next instalment, over and out!!
