Tom & Jo's Excellent Adventure
Nearly finished our adventure in Cambodia, just the seaside to explore at a place called Sihaoukville. Might try to relax for a couple of days before heading back to Bangkok. Cambodia is a great country, we could spend more than our allocated 2 weeks without any problem - but you can't ALWAYS do what you want!! Seeing as we were a bit Templed out, it was good to spend a couple of days exploring Angkor Wat - the biggest attraction in Cambodia - they are a huge series of temples up to 800 years old that have just been left to ruin over the last 500 years. Sadly it's crowded with tourists (mainly Japanese i might add) but there are a few you can pretty much explore on your own, but you can't afford to find any of the landmines!!!! We've also visited the genocide museum and the killing fields on the outskirts of the city - basically it was where 20,000 prisoners were held and killed for no real reason under the regime of Pol Pot from 1975-79. Won't bore you with details but you'll find loads on the net if anyone is interested!! The other highlight was seeing the VERY rare Irrawaddy dolphins that live in the Mekong
River. Probably the only place so far that wasn't jammed with people - we almost had some one to one time with them. Saw about 8, some calves with their mums. Shame it was so hot out on the boat though - and the river isn't the most appealing to swim in, god knows what you'd pick up! We head back to Bangkok in a few days so will post another card then. Over and out.
