South Island Cont... Following on from our last day in the South Island, we did our swimming with dolphins trip. Inbetween the panic attack and the sea sickness it was absolutly amazing!! We were given wetsuits and all the snorkelling kit before getting onto the boat in search of the dolphins....once found we were allowed to enter the water with them-they were great, they just came upto you and swam around. They are totally wild so not trained to do anything but thye were dead friendly-definatley one of the highlights so far!!
North Island: After catching the ferry to Wellington we had a couple days here exploring the city before moving onto Lake Taupo-destination skydive!! I was tricked....Jamie told me we were going to take a drive to the airport to the skydive centre to have a look and enquire...the next min i was been zipped into a jump suit and bundleed into a plane!! I was so scared!! After a 15min plane journey we rose to 12000ft and basically the door was opened and we were thrown out!! The feeling was totally amazing...we got it all on dvd so im sure you'l all see!! will try get the photos on here too-you can see the fear in my face!! Jamie says its the best thing hes ever done and will be doing 15000ft next!! (when we have saved again, lol) We had some time around the lake and also checked out Huka Falls before heading to Rotorua. The place stinks as its a volcanic area but if you can get over that its actually quite nice. We took a trip to the thermal wonderland to see the craters, thermal pools, bubbling mud baths and geysers-very interesting!!
Next stop was Waitomo caves where we did a caving/toobing trip to see the glowworms-look like thousands of stars on the roofs of caves when in darkness, they are actually a worm like creature!! This was great fun even though i seemed to be the butt of all the jokes from the tour guide as i was scared of every creature he said we may come accross (even the cows in the field walking to the cave!!) From here we headed to Auckland for the 20 20 cricket match, eng v nz!! We won and it was great fun, much to my surprise!!
Last but by no means least we headed north to the bay of islands. Here we did a days sailing trip which again was great fun!! (and no sea sickness...im getting better!!) We sailed in the morning (some did...we sunbathed!!) before stopping for a bbq lunch and time off the boat!! we did some snorkelling and kayaking before sailing again in the afternoon!!
Was sad to drop the camper off-had become our little (tiny) home!! Getting ready to move onto Aus again which we are looking forward to but we are both really sad to leave New Zealand-its definatley the best country we have been to..(so far!!) watch this space...........
