Up at 6am and Reena and her kids cooked pancakes for our breakfast. Had a fantastic sleep, but damn those blankets were heavy.
8am and time to leave the family and head for boat, they were such lovely people and kids so polite. Reena walked us to the boat and gave hugs and kisses goodbye.
On boat and heading for Taquile Island, and realised I left my travel scarf behind....ARRGH!! Oh well at least it has gone to a nice family, will just have to buy a new favourite scarf.
Arrive at Taquile Island and we have to walk up to top of Island to main plaza, what is with all these hills?? This Island has knitting men, they knit hats that denotes their marital status - red/white if single and red if married.
Went to a private house and they showed us examples of hats they knit, the workmanship is impeccable, so fine and intricate that it takes about 3 months to complete one hat. Extremely important for young, single men to have high quality knitting as the women judge them by the quality of their knitting. They also cooked us lunch - breads, quinoa soup, grilled trout and coca/muna tea - so delicious.
After lunch it's back to boat and a 3.5 hour boat ride back to Puno, we sat on top deck for the first half as was an absolutely beautiful day and then inside for a nap.
Back in Puno and first on agenda is shower!! Then a wander around Puno, lady on street selling Peruvian version of Alfajores - 3 discs of super light pastry joined with a sticky honey and sprinkled with sesame seeds, very tasty little treat for 1 soles or 38 cents. Relaxing in plaza and end up doing an interview for a student as part of his school work, so now I am famous...haha.
Off to dinner and cuy (guinea pig) was on the menu - very tasty. While at dinner, Ryan (from our Machu Picchu trek) wandered past restaurant and stopped to have coffee - was great to catch up.
Next is casino on way back to hotel - doubled my money, put in 20 soles and walked out with 40 ( in Aus $ that equates to $7.50 in and walked out with $15 - woohoo).
Heading to La Paz tomorrow, almost time to go home.
