Entrance hall and shoe drop.
Shoes, we are told, damage the flooring. Thus it is a custom for anyone and everyone to first take off their shoes in the entrance demarcation before stepping inside one's home. Tam find this practice superb, and often people leave their socks on, and this of course helps to clean the dust off the floor. Few folk wear slippers around their own home, which I can imagine doing exactly the same in winter...but for now, barefoot and off we go. Toe nail polish best to keep smart and in check - else other eyes may just see something my socks are hiding?
