In Merida! Can't get the wifi to work :( So you'll be getting this a few days later. No idea how long it'll be until I'll get wifi next! Will keep writing blogs nevertheless.
A long but good day. Had to get up early to leave for Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It took about us 3 hours by bus from Cancun. The bus was so comfortable, it had reclining seats, air con and even a film with subtitles! Unfortunately it was Spanish subtitles so couldn't follow anything! I really better had start learning Spanish extensively seeing as I'll be in mainly Spanish speaking countries for the next 2 months!
Chichen Itza was so interesting. I had always thought that it was only one building! So when I was told it would take roughly 2-3 hours I wondered why! Now I know lol! Spent about 4 hours looking around. We left our bags in the luggage storage to save us from carrying them around in the sweltering heat.
Of course we couldn't go up as it has been banned since someone died a few years ago after falling down the steps. I did ask if I could though!
Got the bus to Merida, took about 2 hours. Checked in our hotel, good first impressions. Has character. Although no air con! And showers aren't all that good. Sharing with someone now :( the Belgian woman called Fanny (Poor girl having a name like that!) the group are nice but not the kind of people I would usually hang around with. The Russian girl, Katerina is lovely though, she's the same age as me. Such a shame she's so hard to understand. One of the times where I'm glad I'm going with various groups as wouldn't want to be stuck with this group the whole trip! They are nice though!
Merida is a lovely place from what I've seen of it so far. Will explore more tomorrow. I much prefer it to Cancun. Cancun is too commercialised for my liking. Went out to a lovely open roof restaurant. Found it very difficult to follow as it was dark. Typical deaf problems! To be expected anyway. Juan then took us to a bar and bought us all a tequila shot each. You cannot not have tequila in Mexico! Even though I HATE tequila but it wasn't bad! Just the one though! We had it while wearing a sombrero, another must :D
Ordered a strawberry daiquiri after. It was MASSIVE! Probably the biggest cocktail I've had in a very long while! Was lovely though. The two Russians had tea and left early which was very surprising for us all as Russians are well known for liking their drink!
Going to a couple of cenotes tomorrow, so should be good :)
