The sun is out with lots of blue skies ahead and a predicted temperature in Ullapool of 21, so we headed for Ullapool with a planned stop to walk to a waterfall. The views along the drive were outstanding and we pulled into a small parking area and viewing point of the Inverewe. It was very windy here and we took some quick photos before hopping back in the car continuing our way.
The trail to the Inverianvie River Waterfall was a moderate walk starting from a small car park. Just after we started, I spotted a Roe deer amongst the bracken. She stayed quite still as we took the path passed her. The walk was classified as a moderate walk and was pretty with a lovely waterfall at the end of the trail. We spotted a Golden ringed dragonfly and several Eurasian Goldfinch birds.
Across from the trail to the waterfall was a lovely looking beach. We did consider walking down to it but ended up having a chat with a couple from Sydney, with the husband having been for a quick dip in the water. They'd been travelling Europe for the last three months, and we had also seen them in the dining room last night at the Gairloch Hotel. Plus we are both on our way to Ullapool.
We stopped briefly at another lovely lookout across stunning vistas as we wove our way through the mountains and valleys up to Ullapool. We came into the beautiful harbour of Ullapool mid-afternoon with the sun still shining but darker clouds looming. We found the lovely West Coast Deli and ordered some rolls for a late lunch. We stayed in the deli until the downpour eased and made our way to the car. The rain stopped shortly after and the skies cleared to patching clouds.
Our accommodation for the next two nights is at the beautifully picturesque Croft Cottage in Ardmair just 10mins drive from Ullapool. And I must say the owners, Julian and John, have done the most wonderful job of renovating the home into contemporary bed and breakfast rooms plus their home on ground level. There are three rooms - Kelly and I have a room on the first floor looking over the pasture across Loch Kanaird, Isle Martin and surrounding mountains.
After we settled in, we headed back into Ullapool to check out dinner options. We booked into The Ceilidh Place restaurant then headed across to do the Ullapool Hill circular walk. Although AllTrails listed it as a 2hour walk we did it in just over an hour without rushing, but taking in all the lovely views.
Before dinner we walked down to the waters edge, saying hello to a couple with some lovely dogs, one an Italian Spinone, the other a Spinone cross Labrador. We dipped our hands in the water then made our way back up the street to the restaurant. The food was wonderful and our waitress was so lovely.
We finished the evening enjoying the beautiful sunset out of our windows at the Cottage.
