After our lovely stay at the Plockton Inn we decided to do a walk from Plockton up to Duncraig Castle and taking in the town from across the water. It was a lovely walk with views across the Inner Seas off the West Coast of Scotland. Although the gates to the castle were closed and we didn't get to complete the full outlined walk. But we did have a quick peek going through the pedestrian gate at the side of the main gate to see the castle. Duncraig castle has luxury accommodation, so it was strange that the gates were closed.
From here we wound our way around the various mountains and inlets towards Gairloch. We stopped at Victoria Falls, a lovely little waterfall that was close to the carpark. Not long after we arrived in Gairloch. Our Satnav took us passed our hotel to the other end of the town, but that was fine as we were a little early for check in, so we sat in the car and had an apple with crackers and made plans for the rest of the day.
We checked into Gairloch Hotel, settling our belongings into our room on level 1 and then headed over to Badachor Hotel to check out their evening menu as there were quite good reviews. Although it was only a 15 minute drive away the roads were very windy. The menu for the evening hadn't be prepared but were told it would be similar to what was on the blackboard from last night. It didn't feel right, and nothing really jumped out at as, plus the location didn't look as though there'd be much to do or walk until we could have dinner. So, we headed back to Gairloch and I am glad we did.
The sun broke through the clouds and we enjoyed a lovely walk along the paths by the waters edged and then onto the beautiful yellow sand beach! We chatted with a lovely local with a gorgeous Border Collie who was thoroughly enjoying her time chasing a ball on the sand and in the water. It was delightful.
Our dinner back at the Hotel was delicious, and after not really having lunch, we enjoyed a three course meal.
With the sun still quite high in the sky after dinner, we decided to go for another walk through Gairloch, taking in the stunning scenery and looking for otters that are known to be in the area. But no luck this evening.
