Our accommodation in Plockton tonight is only a short drive away so we have plenty of time to still explore Isle of Skye today.
After gathering our luggage and checking out of the hotel, we make our way to the west again. The Fairy Pools is found on the magnificent Black Cuillin range, and are beautiful crystal-clear blue pools that snake down the hillside of Coire na Creiche into the area of Glen Brittle and the River Brittle.
There was a huge parking area, toilet facilities and many, many tourists despite the no quite so nice weather. When we arrived, there was a light drizzle and was quite windy, however the wind stopped and the drizzle cleared during our time completing the Fairy Pools circular walk.
The beautiful waterfalls and pools beneath of clear water were superb. Every pool, and waterfall was so pretty and the missy backdrop of the black and green rugged mountains accentuated every scene.
The further up we went the less tourists and the clearer the weather became. At the last of the waterfalls, the sun even popped out briefly lighting up the aqua water.
We ventured off along the track through the field, navigating our way around larger rocks and wet, boggy areas. Sometimes doing better than others. With one step I sank into the boggy mud with my left foot almost disappearing. That was a test of the new waterproofing … and it did ok. My sock felt only a little wet jus over my pinky toe.
We made it back to the main track and carpark just as the wind increased a little again and it felt like the drizzle may also start soon.
Next we headed off to Glen Brittle café that was advertised to enjoy some lunch. The café was in the Glen Brittle camping ground and was a cosy space with a small selection of lunch options. Unfortunately, the lunch I chose had coriander in the coleslaw, so I only ate around what I could, but it wasn't much. I collected my coffee keep-cup, added a miso soup mix and asked at the counter for some hot water. That made a nice lunch.
Onwards to Plockton from here. The single lane roads were becoming more natural to me and the drive was quite enjoyable. Kelley, took some short videos whilst I drove (both today and previous days). I am looking forward to putting them altogether in a video of my travels.
We arrived in picturesque Plockton, checked into the Plockton Inn and then headed out for a walk around the town. The water in the bay was so flat and still it perfectly reflected the mountains, boats and sky. The photos do not do it justice. We walked around to the Plockton main jetty to take in the full view of the water and spotted two different jellyfish off the pier - the Lions mane jellyfish and the Moon jellyfish.
Dinner in the Plockton Inn was superb! We even enjoyed a glass of Prosecco.
Kelly read that this evenings full moon was a "Strawberry Moon", one that doesn't happen very often, and has the moon at the lowest point in the sky creating a reddish colour timed with the harvesting of strawberries thus getting its name. We decided to stay up late and go to the main jetty at 11:15pm, with the moonrise supposed to be at 11:30pm or so. Once at the main jetty we quietly chatted as it got dark (there was still a little light in the sky when we left the Inn), and checked various websites to get the moonrise time, each saying a different time. We waited until midnight and still no moon, so we headed home and into bed disappointed to no see the moon despite there being minimal cloud.
