Today we woke early (no surprise after our 5am starts). Garth and I went to McDonalds for breakfast had hat our coffee in Cuzco main plaza afterwards.
We left at 9am for our day tour to the sacred valley. Brian and Nicky didn't come as they were organising their trip to Brazil. I really wanted a day off to recover but I also didn't want to miss anything so I went.
Ruben was our guide again today which was cool. We went in the mini bus to an animal sanctuary in the sacred valley. We got to see Pumas and Condors up close (at last) but the shop sold lots of animal fur products...very confusing!
We then went to Pisac to see another Inca Site (not as good as the trail) but we did see an Inca cemetary which were holes in a cliff face.
After lunch we stopped to see how Cicha is made from corn/maize which was really interesting. And we played a silly game!
We then went back to Ollantaytambo, which for everyone who has done the inca trail was a bit much - especially as it was a 2 hr drive away ...
We were all too tired to really appreciate that inca site. Even Paul and Allison weren't interested. But Garth and Gregor did have the energy to climb up to the top of that one. Ruben taught us how the Incas made their cities in shapes. Cuzco in a Puma. Ollantaytambo in a Lama. And Machu Picchu in the shape of a condor.
We got the two hr bus home and all went out to dinner to our cheap local 10 soles place apart from Alison. There was a power cut in the whole city so we ate by candle light for half an hour - but our food kept coming. The boys had a McDonalds ice cream and this little street boy spent the whole time trying to sneak in! Lol!
Tomorrow - THE AMAZON!!!! Sooo excited!!!
