We packed an overnight bag ready to spend 2 nights in the AMAZON!! (the main reason I wanted to come to South America)
As I was carrying my bags down to reception my hand brushed one of the plastic plants...but it really hurt :(.
I looked back to see that in amongst the plastic plants had grown a stinging nettle.
I was not a happy bunny :(
We took a bus to the airport.
Hernan taught me a bit more Spanish and we took our 30min flight into the Amazon.
The temperature was 27 degrees and very humid!
We were picked up by an open side bus and driven via a market to the river.
We took a 1.5 hour canoe (30km down river) ride up to our lodge where we were fed a huge lunch in a leaf!
Garth and I took a dip in the cold pool, but only after I fished out a struggling Beatle.
I took some photos of the lodge and we took a short boat ride across the river to Monkey Island.
We were told to wear trousers, wellies, long sleeves and bring mosquito repellant.
I had no idea how many Mosquitos could exist in one place!!!!!
We were constantly swatting them off one another.
Nicky swatted one off my arm which left a blood stain on my cardigan!
Also the amount of clothes people had on in the heat mean there was also a lot of sweat!!!
We saw lots of monkeys - some coaxed by bananas, butterflies and birds.
The monkeys are rescued from captivity (performing in bars etc) and brought to the island and then their babies are released into the wild.
We were all rather relieved to be off the Mosquito Island (as we had named it) and Garth and I jumped straight into the pool again!
After a shower I really enjoyed swinging in a hammock by the river watching the sun go down and catching up on my blog.
The boys played pool and ping pong whilst I enjoyed a Pisco Sour!
After a 3 course dinner we went out in the boat in the dark looking for Cayman. We saw a few and they were much smaller than I expected! We also saw a snake hanging off a branch. But the best bit was seeing the Milky Way - it was breathtaking.
