Uluru is the biggest rock on the planet. It goes down under the ground 6km!!!! So we can only see the tip of it like an iceberg.
I slept much much better due to being a little more prepared and Garth having found my silk liner in his sleeping bag??!!?! Another early start and it was VERY cold. We packed up quickly and headed to Uluru for the sunrise.
It was so cold that I wrapped my sleeping bag around me! We watched the sunrise just to the left of the rock - not quite directly behind, it wasn't the right time of year. Sam made us breakfast as we watched and we did some funny jumping photos!
We then went over to Uluru and to everyone's delight the climb was closed due to high winds. We then did the 9.4km Base Walk around the rock. It took about two hours and was quite hard going because I wasn't expecting quite such a long walk. But it was really beautiful to see all the various shapes, colours, cave paintings and the Mutijulu Waterhole.
We then dropped some people off at the airport so Garth and I finally had some space for our legs. We then drove all the way back to Alice.
We stopped at Mt Connor lookout (the aboriginals don't go near it as it is associated with death due to the little brother) and saw the salt lake and little lush island! Apparently all three rock formations are in a straight line - ill have to google earth it! We saw a wild Dingo cross the road and a few large Eagles. We enjoyed another wrap lunch and stopped at a camel racing farm (the best in Australia) where a few of our group had rides and I saw a baby joey in a kangaroo pouch which was so cool!!!
When we arrived back in Alice Springs we had 2 hours where we showered and rested. We met 4 of the girls from our tour at 7.15 and walked into town together. I got 30min free wifi in The Rock bar and we all ate for $10 and I enjoyed fish and chips! We chatted a lot with Lila from Sweden. A guy called Paul Greene did a great live acoustic set in the evening and I even danced one song with Sam.
We left at 10.30 with an American girl and both Sam and the doorman told us to get a cab the 10min walk down the road as it wasn't safe!! So we did and slept well.
