I slept badly. The hum of the air con and the too cold outside the duvet vs the too hot under the duvet unsettled me! Our breakfast was oriental but toast and cereal was available!
We made straight for the Big Buddah. The MTR was straightforward although very busy! We discovered that most people were on their way to Disney Land! At Tung Chung station we queued for a long time for the Ngong Ping 360 which is a 5.7km cable car over the mountains to the Po Lin Monastery. Once finally on, it was beautiful! The views over the bay and the airport were amazing. And approaching the Big Buddah from the sky really showed its scale.
The monastery itself was very touristy and the temple was covered in scaffolding (shame) but the walk up to the Buddah was good. We saw only one Buddhist praying on the way up. The Buddah had a swasticker on his chest. It was very hot climbing but the view at the top was great. We decided against looking around the temple or walking the wisdom path to beat the crowds back to the sky lift.
We got a quiet ride back to the train station where we had a honey and pear tea and ice cream before getting the train back to our hotel. We ate at a restaurant opposite our hotel and I enjoyed a yummy and NON spicy mushroom noodle soup!
We took a nap/rest in our room for a few hours before walking through town down to the avenue of stars. I was overheating and had to take regular breaks. There wasn't the wind by the harbour I was hoping for!
We saw the Bruce Lee statue and took a seat on the railing whilst the sun set. I popped out to buy some drinks and got an ice lolly to cool down and it was the most disgusting thing ever! It was green and bitty and tasted like frozen grass!!! :(
We watched the symphony of lights show from the avenue of stars complete with random music which sounded as though it was from the 80s. The show was a little disappointing, but because it was free...it was great! :)
We then wondered back towards the MTR only to be dumbfounded by the biggest floating rubber duck we've ever seen! Godzilla eat your heart out! What great fun! It was photo crazy there! I later found out it was apparently contemporary art and only there for a few days! What luck we saw it!
We got the MTR back to our hotel where we freshened up and went our for dinner. I had a lovely seafood soup with a raw egg (??!!) and some beer. We then attempted to shop for gifts at the Temple Street night marked but it abdolutedly poured down with rain. So we managed to protect the camera and run back to the hotel by like midnight when we went to bed!
