We woke at 4.30 after a troubled nights sleep due to Sam's loud snoring and awful hostel matrices! It was a challenging packing with only the light of a wind up torch!
We had a quick breakfast of shop bought pancakes before heading off to the Sol de Mañana Geysers. We arrived right on cue for sunrise. The smell of sulphur was very strong and the sound of bubbling mud and shooting steam was loud! We were given strict instructions not to touch the steam as seriously hot and people had lost hands and feet to it! We enjoyed the experience and the photos but the raining ash and the thought of the activity under our feet led us back to the car after 10 mins!
We then drove to the fumaroles hot spring. There was only one pool which was only a meter deep, but it was great!!! We stripped off near the car, so the 20meters in bare feet at 4000 meters altitude left me quite cold which meant that the 35 degrees hot water felt BOILING when I first got in!
We Had about half an hour enjoying the heat (and a wash) before jumping back into the car to cross the Salvador Dali Desert towards the Chilean boarder.
I had been looking forward to seeing the red lagoon and the salt flats, but I was overwhelmed by the natural beauty and the variations in geography that we saw!! I also really enjoyed the time in the car singing and chatting with people!
