It has been a hectic couple of days and we lost Internet access for a while. We didn't realise that the so-called free wifi we had in the first hotel, was actually the room next door's and that we should have been paying for our own. Anyhow, we now have free wifi in this hotel. The first set of presentations were actually today (and not tomorrow as we originally thought). The language barrier was hard work, even with a translator. It came as a shock to the university in Taiwan that we actually train teachers in the UK to USE technology before we would expect them to use it in their teaching. This is obviously not the case in Taiwan. They were quite surprised by the active learning style that we used with the students. They are accustomed to being passive learners. Everyone is very helpful and extremely polite. There are loads of photos but just not enough time to compress and upload them. A few new ones have been added. It is either starve or use the chopsticks as there are no alternatives. We get tea with everything, but not tea as we know it!! Tonight we ventured out to a local Taiwanese eatery. I ended up with a very sweet rice, as Hugh said the glass dish was soy sauce, but in fact it was a tiny creme caramel dessert with the caramel on top (which I loathe). The whole meal came on a tray and it was difficult to know which was the starter, main and dessert. Anyhow, it only cost about 360 Taiwanses dollars which is about £7.
