Perth (Take 2)
After a bit of research, well Googling, it seems that people do think snakes have tails, sort of at least. With the tail just being the end of a snake, but a more interesting discovery occured when searching for how a snake went to the toilet. It turns out that snake's pee and pooh, and even have sex, using the same hole, called cloaca, apparently! A wierd but fascinating discovery, I'm sure you will agree!
I got the coach up to Perth at a ludicrous time of day (7 am), and met Kimmy for lunch. Where, although I didn't realise at the time, I ordered salad for the first time!!! I have been eating salad for a little while, except tomatoes, which are just evil (when cold), but have never actually ordered it in a restaurant. Don't worry I'm not becoming a health freak, as I promptly washed it down with two pints of Heiny (sadly brewed in Oz). I attempted some Christmas shopping, but got bored within minutes and found myself checking the sights of Perth, before returning to the pub. This was probably a good thing, as I later found out the sheer cost of posting something back home, so to anyone hoping for a gift to turn up, give up, as it won't be happening this year, sorry! That night I met Kimmy's new man Fidele, before we heading out in our matching outfits, both me and Kimmy in black shirts, and Fidele in his black t-shirt - made quite the image, perhaps the new avengers?! Another night out in Northbridge followed, with a little less dancing than usual, but the shooters were certainly flowing!
The next day was Perth Glory day!! My first ever football (or as the Australian blasphemers call it - soccer, disgraceful!) match in Oz! Perth Glory at the time were residing 7th in a table of 8, and were playing Melbourne Victory, who were sitting pretty at the top. My hopes were high, but the rest of the Shed (local supporter's club) seemed less optimistic. I took the coach to the game along with Matty and Harro, very much feeling one of the gang. Amazingly the tickets were only $25, if only Old Trafford was so cheap!! The stadium was a tad small, but the 7000 fans were creating quite some noise, and luckily the tune, and some songs were so similar to back home I quickly learnt the local lingo. The game was captivating, and to my joy, along with the fellow shedites, Perth Glory ran out victors, with an impressive 3 - 1 final score! Although it failed to move them up the table, it did improve their slender hopes of a play-off place. The party continued at the pub, where I also managed to win the raffle, perhaps my lucky day, if only I could play the lotto!! That night I sampled another Australian kebab, slightly less chilli sauce, than my previous visit, which was very tasty, but still just tastes that little bit healthy, compared to the dripping fat fest of a kebab in England!
Sunday was more of a relaxing day, where Kimmy and I once again proved our immense pool skills, to a captive audience in Queens. Before a scrumptious dinner at JB O'Reilys, followed by some live band action. With the night only being completed with a quick stop via the Elephant and Wheelbarrow! Oops, that reminds me, how could I forget! Before I left to Perth, Daddy and I went to Goodfella's for a bite to eat, and successfully managed to consume pizza for every course! With a garlic/chilli bread to start, a meat feast for main, and some sort of pizza dessert concoction for afters (not too be recommended), we felt quite the accomplishment!
Well back to Perth, and Monday, or Pizza Day (for me at least). Where I had pizza for lunch, and further pizza for dinner, leaving me rather full for days to come! I hung out at the Paddo with Kimmy and Fidele, who was quite stunned by our pool talents, and later tried some wine from Brookland Valley. Supposedly the best winery in Australia right now, according to Mr Halliday anyway.
Although it is a different weekend, I feel last weekend also deserves mention, for I visited Freo and Perrth with Daddy. My Dad had a fire course on the Monday, so work luckily payed for us to stay in a hotel, even if I had to share with a bed-hog! We drove up Sunday, which was pretty much the hottest day of the year so far, with Perth hitting 38 degrees. On arriving at the hotel, the only option seemed the spa, or to be precise the sauna, as what else do you do in the heat except get hotter! At 58 degrees, our bodies seemed to be melting, so in order to remould ourselves, we hit the jacussi, before hitting the town that night. We found a delightful spot to watch the sunset, sadly the beer was flat and ridicously priced, while the food was just terrible. My cucumber raita was off, and, perhaps luckily, the masala contained no cream, and appeared to use water and food colouring as its substantial ingredients. We unsurprisingly skipped dessert, but did have a quick game of pool, however much like the rest of the restaurant, the pool was disappointing! There was only half the balls, and no black or white in sight, apparently the previous night they had been thrown out the window, I'm guessing after they had eaten dinner, to show their true feelings! After we found a bar, with a heavy metal band playing, certainly different and rather fun, even if I failed to join the headbanging crowd! Next was the Clink, a club we later found out that you go to pick up prostitutes. We, however, entered innocently, with our pure intention being to grab a beer and have a boogie, this was followed by a kebab - which attacked my clothes, and left me slightly red-faced on returning to the hotel with chilli sauce dripping down my white t-shirt!
The next morning, I got the train from Freo (Freemantle) to Perth, and headed up to Kings Park! A very pretty little spot, with fantastic views of the city. After tucking into a full-english, while absorbing the views, I decided to examine some more fauna and flowers, with a dash of waterfalls thrown in. Plus a tree that looks remarkably like a sweet potato, roots included, turned totally upside down, strange! I met Kimbo for lunch, before catching up with my Dad for dinner at an Irish bar! Being the generous soul that I am, I let Daddy drink, and sipped my water in preparation for the drive ahead. The steak was pretty tasty, but too salty, the appetiser however, was delicious! I then made the drive back to Margs, in a good three hours, with the safe secure in the boot and my Dad snoring away beside me, with nothing but music to keep me going, and avoiding the dead Kangaroo's (well one at least, or it may have been a lion, hard to tell in the night).
Well that is my past two weekends of Perth for your enjoyment, I will update with the excitement of Christmas festivities shortly!
To all my avid readers, I wish you a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic New Years!! May Santa bring you all that you desire, and whatever he forgets I'm sure you can pick up in the sales!
