First I feel I should apoligise for the lack of photos so far, but I took so many of Singapore, and a fair few more since then, that I just haven't had the time to sort through them yet, but in the next few weeks, I am sure a few pikkies will arrive on facebook (maybe).
Well if you are still reading my blogs, thank you, I am impressed, as I do find it something of a struggle to update my journal these days, I am sorry if it becomes a little vague, it is simply because my memory is terrible and the days have blurred into one or just got a little lost on the memory highway!
My Dad decided to cook a BBQ for my first night in Margs, sadly it was raining, so we decided to view the food on the BBQ from the comfort of the sitting room, before tucking into our slighly soggy hash browns and burgers!
The next day, was the Melbourne Cup, which is supposedly a world famous horse race, but is basically an excuse for no-one to work, dress up a little (unless you are in Margs), and drink all day! Ok, that was a little harsh, the girls were looking very nice in their dresses, but accept for the guy in an insane checkerboard suit, not many men were looking too smart, even me, as sadly all my shirts were still on the dirty side of clean! The race itself was interesting, although I wasn't too sure what was going on, and just started to cheer for the only horse with a funky name, even if it led some poor guy in the bar too think his horse had won, when it actually didn't even finish - oops! After the race the day became a little blurry, so I shall summarise it with a few words that I jotted down in my little journal, jugs of Ted's, yellow dress, people mistaking my Dad for my brother, Daddy going home before 5pm, beef sandwiches, myself and Ed attempting and failing to hit on every girl in Margaret River (perhaps due to the slurred speech) and being home by 7.30pm!
Thankfully I started the next day feeling as fresh as a daisy, and met Ed to go on a winery tour! We hit the track with Wine for Dudes (so appropriate), and began our tour at Tursills, which was actually pretty tasty, and the only winery I actually bought some Shiraz at all day! The cheese factory followed, not exactly the greatest cheese ever, but fairly tasty. Next on the schedule was Hay Shed Hill, although I wasn't the biggest fan of the wines, I did get to make my own mix of Merlot and Cab Sav, which tasted sensational of course, and made the perfect accompanient to a lovely lunch! For dessert we hit the chocoltate factory, I was sadly a little full to really stuff my face, and prefered to save myself for the next winery which was Saracens. Very pretty winery, even if a little pretentious, the experience was massively improved when one of our party attempted to flight with the salesperson. We finished the day with a pint at the Duckstein Brewery, which I must say fet most deserved after a day of wine drinking. Now for anyone else that plans to go on a winery tour, it is an absolute must that you do the whole tasting thing properly, as even if, and you will, look like a tit while you doing it, it does add to the whole experience. That night I met the rest of my tour buddies in the pub, by now the miners were struggling, but did provide some amusing conversation! The rest of the group were very cool, and did make the whole day a most enjoyable experience!
I went to the beach in the morning with Mark and Alisha, sadly the wind was on turbo, and the sun was hiding behind its curtains, so we felt more wineries were in order! We hit the big names, Voyager (pretty tasty), Leeuwin (disappointing), and the oldest winery in the region - Vasse Felix (alright, but pretty much wineried out by then, thats so not a word).
Friday was the warm up for my 23rd Birthday, I made the mistake, or rather my Dad made the mistake of drinking the double vodka red bull's, and felt a little worse for wear the next day! I finished the night watcing Lost in Translation, and have to say was left feeling most appreciative of Scarlet's delightful bottom! My Dad gave me a very cool picture collage for my present, a collection of my pikkies from the Great North Run, which made the effort of carrying my camera the whole way most worthwhile. The day started with a quick visit to the Venison Farm, couldn't bring myself to hunt down my dinner with the rifle, so just stuck with picking up a couple of sausages! That night we went to the Spaghetti Bowl for dinner, and I was deeply embarrassed when the waiting staff brought me my Birthday cake while singing, why do friends and family do this?! (child cruelty anyone?).
The next week i took fairly easy, strolled down to the beach, a 20 k round trip, I should point out! Left my sun cream at home though, and discovered how easy it is to burn in the land of Oz. I spent the rest of the week with a rather purple coloured neck, and bright red nose, sadly a little early for my Rudolph audition! I checked out the ten mile Dam (rubbish), Leeuwin Art Series - world famous, but not that great in my opinion, went on some lovely walks, was a hot week, so couldn't bring myself to actually go for a run, probably die, as used to running in the UK at night!! Went for a BBQ too, where I managed to injure myself when showing off my talented bouncing skills on a child's trampoline - slightly foolish, I admit.
Well thats it from Margs for now, the Pemberton blog will follow shortly, sadly no football updates yet, as previously mentioned the team have resided themselves to simple training while chilling in the South West!
