Breakfast was ok (included in the room price), had the American version. Then we went to sleep for a bit more since I had slept a bit badly. But we hadn't any hurry to anywhere (that's why I looove these holidays!), so slept good for coupla hours. Then went off to the pool for a drink and for a swim in the sea. Then relaxing at the pool side, reading a vampire novel. So the day went lazily away, and when it came dark at about 6.30PM, we took a taxi to Nathon and the local street food market at the harbour. Like street food markets generally this one too had a nice atmosphere and of course, mostly locals eating here, with the occasional tourists. We grabbed some meat sticks first, then ventured to the stall from which you could get the BEST Pad Thai I've EVER tasted from an old man making it. Also some local guys told tht this were the best of their opinion as well and one of them told that he came there to eat every day. And whatta spectacular Pad Thai's we got!! Awesome ones!!! Got the prawn&the chicken versions. Both were amazingly tasty&spicy! YAM!! =) And the cost? 45 baht/portion (is about 1,15€). Ridiciously cheap, in other words!
Also got a portion of different kind of meat- and fishballs and sausage and big pints of beer (NOTE: the big "pint" being 1 litre!! :D ), and everything cost under 10€! For two people. So I definitely recommend that you should visit at least once at the Nathon food market when here in Koh Samui and be sure to grab a Pad Thai of your life from the middle aged man at about the centre of the market, left side row of stalls! That of course, if you really want to eat GOOD & authentic LOCAL FOOD! ;)
We were so full after eating those that we just couldn't bare any desserts anymore, even though a tempting fresh fruit shakes were just under our eyes.. Btw, local guys had smth to look at when two girls were having those BIG beers and 3 plates of food and we ate & drank it all ;D
Got a taxi then back to our resort, grabbed one beer, sat on our own porch and listened to the crickets and the other sounds of the night. Then we were so ready to sleep. Zzzzz :)
--- Note: In Koh Samui one thing pissed me off: the taxi monopoly that they're having here;
do NOT expect ANY taxi to use any meter, ever. They won't, even if you ask and ask and would tell them to. They'll just tell you that "no one uses a meter in Samui.".. So you're always forced to negotiate a fixed price for the ride beforehand. And beware: it's gonna be an expensive one! Like 3 times as much as you'd pay in Bangkok, f.ex. In other words:
it's in about the same prices than we have in Finland (or in the UK). And Finland has one of the most expensive taxi rates in the whole Europe... :(
