Wow, it's only been two weeks since we landed in Qatar and so much is happening. We haven't really had much time yet to explore the country, but that will come in time. Right now we're busy getting to know the city and our neighborhood along with all our new neighbors.
It's nice to finally have some pleasant neighbors after all. The couple next to us are great. The husband is in a similar position to myself, he's looking hard for a job before he bores himself to death in their apartment. I know he's talked to me a few times about joining the local ball hockey league. So we'll see how that goes, eventually I'll run out of time to do all my hobbies.
Not a big surprise that with all of the traveler's we've met a large percentage are into photography. So I've kinda started an unofficial HUBS photo club, HUBS being the school Erin is teaching at. About half a dozen of us took an evening the other day and walked around downtown Doha, then continued down the Corniche (water front). I think everyone had a good time so we're going to try to get together once a month for now and explore the country a little bit. If everyone is up for it I've got a few more photo based ideas that may be fun and also help eleviate some stress from the teachers.
The biggest shocker for me was when I found out that there actually is rock climbing in Qatar. Allbeit very small, there is a rock formation that allows for some top roping only. I have yet to get out of the city and find it, but I have been in contact with some other unfortunate climbers looking for a little moral support. If there is enough interest maybe we can find a way to establish an indoor wall to hold us all at bay in between trips.
I know it sounds like I'm talking about myself a lot, but Erin really is to busy with school to do anything else right now. Though she may have something else to say about that.
Again about myself, I've just applied to Athabasca University Bachelor of Science program. So even if I don't find work I will have something to help keep my sanity. The best part is that I may get two full years of credit from my Engineering diploma. Which is awesome, because then I could potentially have an Ed. degree in 4 years.
Not much more to say, but I should throw something in about Erin. Though it includes both of us, it's more an Erin thing. We are going to try and get to the animal shelter this week and find a small dog for the apartment. I'm not a huge fan of dogs that look like overgrown rodents, but it may not be so bad if I'm stuck home alone. And a lot of the neighbors have expressed intrest in watching a dog while we're on holidays.
I sound like I'm just rambling on now about random stuff, but it sucks. For the last couple of days our air conditioning hasn't been working properly. So just sitting on the couch I'm breaking a sweat.
Any how it's getting pretty late and I should be in bed, so this is me signing off.
