Well I don't know if I can really call it normality yet, but we are starting to settle in. Aside from a few minor bumps along the way, I think we got away with everything pretty easily. The flight from Montreal to Jordan was less than pleasant, but that was at no fault to the airline. I was just lucky enough to be place next to two little demons, who managed to break their seats within the first hour of the flight. However; that's over now and we are in Doha, Qatar safely.
I wish I had the time and energy during this first week to keep up on my writing because it's been such an amazing week. Every time we step out of the apartment, make a phone call or do anything it's like an entirely new adventure. Living in Canada we tend to get accustomed to living with so many people of different nationalities, but have no idea what it's like being the minority. Everything we have to do seems to be a major ordeal. It took me three days to describe to one man on the phone where our apartment was so he could deliver our drinking water. And by the time I finally got it sorted out, Erin's school had made arrangements with another supplier so we had to cancel.
Don't get me wrong though, I am having a blast. Last night was our first real trip away from the neighborhood. Four of us from the building took a cab to the Souq Wagif, which is the oldest of the traditional markets in Doha. After cruising around the market for a while we found a nice little Moroccan restaurant and sat down for dinner. I had my first taste of Camel meat, and I'd have to say it was pretty good on a sandwich.
This week Erin is in school for the new teacher orientation, so I'm staying at home being a good house husband cleaning and cooking for us. Tomorrow I thing that I'm going to the mall with another house husband in the building. But next week the teachers are off again, so I think we are going to go and do some touristy things. I know that a lot of the teachers want to explore the history and culture of Qatar so they can use it in their classes. With any luck I'll have some really interesting pictures to post by the end. Right now I'm just a little weary about the photography because the Muslims are in the middle of Ramadan so I don't want to take any chances.
I hope everything is going well for everyone, and I'll try to write again soon.
