I figured I'd spend my only full day in Bangkok doing cultural things - I ended up walking around, getting lost, getting minor heat stroke, eventually finding the hotel again, going to the health spa & then running into some Canadians, who I insulted immediately by asking if they were American...
After that little faux pas, I was pointed in the right direction by the very nice Canadian couple (shame about that, he was pretty cute). I got the Sky-train into Siam, the centre of Bangkok. Wandered around a lot, had a late lunch. So many shopping centres, its insane. Completely missed anything cultural and went back to the hotel. Can't say I didn't try!
Didn't get to do anything on my last morning in Bangkok as due to jet lag I pretty much slept through and only caught breakfast by the skin of my teeth. Then had a joyous 4 hours wandering around the Suvarnabhumi (soo-wanna-poom) airport. Joy.
PS Anyone thinking of having a proper Thai massage - DON'T, unless you're into that whole pain thing... It was brutal. I felt like I was being beaten up by this tiny Thai lady. I was wincing and yelping and paying for the privilige! At one point my arms were left, my legs right and my spine cracked several times. I feel nauseous just thinking about it. Bleurgh.
