Beautiful weather here in Finland!
We've now moved on to Turku, where Laura goes to university. It's a nice smaller city, very pretty. Before we left Helsinki we met some of Laura's friends and went out on the town with them, to experience more 'Finish culture' of course. ;.)
The next morning we went to an island outside of Helsinki to see an old fortress built in the 17th century. It was really neat looking, we read it's even an UNESCO world heritage sight for its contribution to military architecture and showcased a bit of Finnish history with its movement between Russian and Swedish before it became an independent country.
I've learned two Finnish word while I've been here, 'moi' which is hello or goodbye, kinda like aloha and 'keetos' which is thank you. I've used them a lot when interacting with cashiers and then I just look confused when they say anything else, luckily most people also speak english.
Here in Turku we went out and saw Turku cathedral which was very interesting and had some very neat burials inside. Then we went to several places that ended up being closed because it is monday and apparently everything is closed here on Monday but it was still nice to walk around a see Turku. We also drove out to an island and saw some nice scenery in this parkish kind of area by the cost and we also drove to a pretty little town not far outside of Turku.
Tomorrow we are going to the castle here in Turku and maybe to some street markets. We've been really really lucky with weather here, its been beautiful and sunny, a welcome change from the weather we had in Ireland!
We move on to Germany in a couple days where we fly into Bremen and then head to stay with some friends of Dana's in Badendorf. That's about it for now, I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend!
