Suzies Big Holiday :)
So last stop Cuzco..unless i can change my flight...! Sposed to be flying home next week... 17th March....I hadnt really realised at all... its come round soo quick!!!!
Spent the last couple of days on a trip on Lake Titicaca. It was kool! Went from Puno on a boat out to the flaoting islands which was a bit crazy. Aside from the usual touristyness of the trip it was pretty good. Got to stay with the locals on the island of Amantani. We arrived and after a pretty hefty hike up the hill we were allocated our families and went to have lunch! Our lady was very quiet. She was all by herself as her husband and sons had gone to work or study in Puno. Its a hard life but we did have electricity tho which was a bonus. The lady was very accomodating and friendly even though the islanders speak Quechua not Spanish so its even harder to communicate. Our lunch consisted of soup, a boiled egg, some rice, and a couple of freeze dried potatoes. Very interesting although surprisingly satisfying! Took a walk up to Pacahamama (mother earth) on the island, and in the evening after a dinner of yummy soup, rice and vegatable looking curry thing we went to get ready for the evenings entertainment. It started to tip it down!! The lady brought us all the traditional clothes we were sposed to dress up in but very clearly she didnt want to go. We didnt want to make her either! She looked about 35 but was actually 49! They dont half have a tough life and im not altogether sure if tourism is a good thing for the islanders or not! Anyway instead of walking to the party and getting the beaaautiful clothes all wet we decided to have a dressing up session in the bedroom. The lady was pretty greatful and we enjoyed putting all the gear on..then we snuck out and went to the party anyway. People were dancing and the locals were having ball, even though they do it EVERY night! Finished pretty early ...waited around for the after party but turns out there wasnt one, never mind!
Next day up early for a boat ride to Taquilie- another island! Wandered round the island in the rain had a bit of lunch and then the sun came out for the 3 hour ride home. Was gorgeous although i think i slept most of the way home....!
Back to Puno for the evening and Id hooked up with a bunch of people from a GAP tour, went out for dinner then next day 6 1-2 hours on a bus to Cuzco!
Start the Inca Trail on Saturday! Looking forward to it although getting organised is turning out to be a nightmare and ive just lost my raincoat...grrr off to find it! PLus no flights home until April 16th,..may be going via Miami instead...grrrr! Sightseeing round Cuzco will have to wait...
(uploaded some pics for you hannah and yes rambling to fill in the time...soz)xxx
